Located between the Fifth Avenue and the number 49 street are the American Girl Place, one house of one of the most popular dolls of United States of America. I had been there last month (March 2013) and I gonna talk a little bit about this dolls and this store.
The American Girl dolls was creaded by Pleasant Rowland that, after a visit to colonial Williamsburg thought that little girls might become interested in history through identifuing with dolls based on historic periods.
Then, in 1986, she founded the Pleasant Company, which manufactured the dolls, the books and the assessories. The company quickly grown and with that was created new dolls, books and clothes for dolls and for girls. The first three company dolls was Kirsten, Molly & Samantha. In 1998, Pleasant Rowland sold your company for Mattel, who is the current owner and manufacturer of American Girl dolls.
Currently the dolls are divided into five "categories": Bitty Baby, Bitty Twins, Historical Dolls, Girl of The Year and My American Girl.
Bitty Baby are dolls in baby format sold in 7 different models for little girls. The are sold at $55,00 each. Bitty Twins are dolls a little bit older (they aren't babies but they aren't big girls too) on site are sold in pairs and in 5 different ethnicities. On the site you can only buy the pair and they are sold at $115,00 each, but in the stores you can buy only one doll at $75,00 each.
The Historical Dolls are, like their name already said, dolls that represent some time of american history. There are 18 dolls, but just 13 are sold, because 5 were archived and are not sold by the American Girl. The collection includes dolls of the years of 1764 to 1974.
The Girl of The Year are dolls that are just sold in one year. Each year, since 2001, they launch a new doll with personality, characteristics and different hobby. This year the girls of the year is Saige, a red head girl, with freckles and blue eyes that loves arts and ride horses. They all have a story and some of them even have their film (some Historical Dolls too).
My American Girl is the current name for dolls that are similar to the owner. They was called of American Girl of Today and Just Like You. Are 40 models different. Those dolls, different of Historical Dolls and of Girls of The Year, don't came with a book. They came with a code that allows the child to enter a virtual world through the InnerstarU web site.
The Historical Dolls, Girls of The Years and My American Girl are sold at $110,00 each. Aside and above we have photos of storefronts of My American Girl dolls, where you can choose the most similar to the girl.
